They are associated with overactive fibroblasts that produce excessive collagen and growth factors. This letter discusses a case of submental keloid formation in a child following prolonged cervical collar application. Summary: A 9-year-old male developed a submental keloid after extended use of a cervical collar post-surgery for os odontoideum. The collar caused skin irritation leading to erythema and laceration, which ultimately resulted in keloid formation despite attempts to mitigate pressure. The case highlights the risk of pressure injuries associated with cervical collars, particularly in immobile patients. Conclusion: Cervical collars, while essential for spinal immobilization, pose a risk for skin integrity and pressure injuries, including keloid formation. A multidisciplinary approach is recommended to prevent such complications, including regular assessments and adjustments to collar use.
