Despite initial skepticism and misunderstanding within the spinal cord community, recent studies have begun to validate the anatomical rationale and technological advancements underpinning this protocol. Summary: Recent proof-of-principle studies have demonstrated that a sharp severance of the spinal cord, combined with the application of polyethylene glycol (PEG), can facilitate significant recovery of motor function in animal models. Notably, the use of a nano-enhanced form of PEG has shown promising results, with rapid recovery of motor behaviors observed in treated subjects. These findings suggest a paradigm shift in the treatment of spinal cord injuries, emphasizing the need for further exploration in clinical settings. Conclusion: The GEMINI protocol presents a novel approach to spinal cord injury management, with the potential for substantial functional recovery. Future clinical applications, particularly in brain-dead organ donors, may pave the way for revolutionary advancements in the field of neurosurgery and regenerative medicine.
