A finite pool of talent, particularly in STEM fields, is insufficient to meet the increasing demands of high-tech economies, leading to critical shortages in medical staffing. Summary: The impending retirement of a large number of healthcare professionals, including technicians, nurses, and physicians, will exacerbate existing staffing shortages. Recent healthcare legislation has not provided adequate solutions to prepare more medical professionals, highlighting the need for systemic changes in education and workforce training. Conclusion: Community-based organizations are emerging as vital partnerships to address the talent shortages in healthcare. By reinventing local education-to-employment systems and retraining workers, these organizations can help bridge the gap between workforce needs and available talent.
