Future perspectives of autologous fibrin glue. Is it time for reappraisal?","authors":["Giuseppe R. Giammalva","Domenico G. The technique of using autologous abdominal fat for dural closure presents a novel approach, yet raises concerns regarding potential adverse events associated with fat grafting. Summary: The authors express interest in the technique presented by Di Vitantonio et al. for dural repair using autologous fat, highlighting its ease of use and versatility. However, they also note the reported adverse events, including hemorrhage and cerebrospinal fluid leakage, which warrant careful consideration. The authors advocate for the re-evaluation of autologous fibrin glue, which may offer significant advantages in terms of biocompatibility and reduced risks associated with foreign materials. Conclusion: While the technique of fat engraftment for dural repair is promising, the associated risks suggest that the potential of autologous fibrin glue should be re-examined. Further investigations into the biological effects and applications of autologous fibrin in neurosurgery are warranted.
