Faria"],"abstract":"Background: The Patient Protection and Affordable Care Act, known as ObamaCare, was enacted in 2010 amidst significant political controversy and public dissatisfaction. It aimed to expand access to insurance for nearly 30 million uninsured Americans, introducing mandates for insurance coverage and penalties for noncompliance. The legislation has been characterized as a step towards corporate socialized medicine in the U.S. Methods: The article reviews the legislative process surrounding the passage of ObamaCare, detailing the political maneuvers employed by Democratic leaders to secure its approval in Congress. It discusses the use of budget reconciliation to bypass traditional voting requirements and the procedural tactics that facilitated the bill's passage. Results: ObamaCare was passed by the House of Representatives and Senate in late 2009 and early 2010, despite considerable opposition. The final vote in the House occurred on March 21, 2010, with the bill signed into law by President Obama two days later. The law faced immediate backlash, with a symbolic repeal vote occurring in January 2011. Conclusion: The article argues that the implementation of ObamaCare represents a significant shift towards government control of healthcare, which it claims violates the U.S. Constitution's limitations on federal power. The author contends that the legislation's mandates and penalties undermine individual freedom and autonomy in healthcare choices.
