This shift emphasizes high-quality data over anecdotal evidence, as demanded by patient advocacy groups and reimbursement agencies. The series of articles titled 'resolving controversies in neurosurgery through randomized controlled trials' aims to facilitate discourse on these issues. Methods: Each article in the series will address a specific topic, providing a concise description of the issue and summarizing the available RCT data. Expert commentary will be invited, and reader input will be solicited through questionnaires accompanying each article. The first article focuses on the clinical value of extended resection in glioblastoma patients. Results: The series is designed to serve various audiences, including residents, early-stage neurosurgeons, and active practitioners, by summarizing current RCT literature and fostering discussion. The first hundred responses to the accompanying questionnaire will be recorded and reported in future issues, allowing for a survey of reader opinions. Conclusion: This collection of articles is intended to enhance the understanding of RCTs in neurosurgery and contribute to the evolution of clinical practices. It aims to provide a platform for discussion and reflection on the implications of RCT data in neurosurgical decision-making.
