Missed thoracic myelopathy: Do not throw the hammer away yet
Date of publication: 09-Aug-2019
Background: Spinal stenosis may result in myelopathy, radiculopathy, and neurogenic claudication. It is often difficult to differentiate between these conditions. A comprehensive history and physical examination and a magnetic resonance imaging (MRI) of the entire spine accurately confirm the diagnosis.

Implante de shunt ventrículo peritoneal en el paciente adulto. Un nuevo protocol
Date of publication: 02-Aug-2019

Cervical alignment following laminoplasty for cervical spondylotic myelopathy
Date of publication: 02-Aug-2019
Background: Laminoplasty can result in the loss of cervical lordosis (LOCL) or the development of kyphosis after surgery. Here, we evaluated the clinical and radiological parameters involved in predicting the postoperative LOCL following laminoplasty in patients with cervical spondylotic myelopathy (CSM) and ossification of the posterior longitudinal ligament (OPLL).
Intraoperative tension pneumothorax during posterior vertebral column resection in a child with congenital scoliosis
Date of publication: 02-Aug-2019
Background: Intraoperative tension pneumothorax (TPT) is extremely rare in spinal surgery overall and particularly in extensive deformity procedures. Here, we report a TPT occurring in conjunction with posterior vertebral column resection (pVCR) for the treatment of congenital scoliosis.

Minimally invasive lateral transpsoas approach for lumbar corpectomy and stabilization
Date of publication: 02-Aug-2019
Background: Here, we present our experience with the minimally invasive (MI) transpsoas approach for lumbar corpectomy and stabilization. Transpsoas approach accesses the lumbar spine and includes both the direct lateral interbody fusion and extreme lateral interbody fusion techniques. Both procedures utilize a tubular retractor system which facilitates adequate retraction and direct visualization of the target, while supposedly reducing soft tissue trauma.
