Prevalence of anemia in pediatric patients of traumatic brain injury and problems associated with management in a developing country: Unfolding of an underrated comorbidity

Background: Pediatric anemia has a high prevalence in developing countries such as Pakistan. It is common knowledge among hospital specialties but little is done to manage this condition by hospitalists. The issue is compounded with a poor primary care infrastructure nationally. The aim of this study is to bring to light the high prevalence of anemic children in neurosurgery and to describe the difficulties in managing their anemia in a tertiary hospital setting. A literature review is presented highlighting the socioeconomic difficulties that contribute to this widespread comorbidity and the difficulty in managing it from a hospital specialty point of view.

Background: A spherical intracranial mass can be occasionally misdiagnosed due to the lack of typical radiographic features. Completely thrombosed intracranial aneurysms (CTIA) are uncommon, but a possible differential diagnosis must be considered to guarantee the best surgical approach for these lesions.

Distant large acute epidural hematoma after closed cerebrospinal fluid tapping through the anterior fontanelle: A case report and its pathogenesis

Background: Cerebrospinal fluid (CSF) infection is one of the most common and serious complications of shunt placement. The CSF shunt infections are preferably treated with intravenous antibiotics, infected shunt removal, repeated tapping (infants) or placement of an external ventricular drainage (EVD) device, and placement of a new shunt once the CSF is sterile. The tapping through the anterior fontanelle is commonly used instead of the EVD in developing countries to manage CSF infection in open anterior fontanelle patients. To the best of our knowledge, this would be considered the first reported case of distant epidural hematoma after closed ventricular tapping.
Intrasellar cavernous hemangiomas: A case report with a comprehensive review of the literature

Background: Extra-axial cerebral cavernous hemangiomas particularly those found in the sellar region, are extremely rare. Their clinical manifestations and imaging characteristics can mimic those of a pituitary adenoma thus making preoperative diagnosis difficult. Few cases are reported in the literature. We present a case, along with a comprehensive review of the literature regarding specific aspects of diagnosis and management of all similarly reported rare cases.
Extracranial-intracranial high-flow bypass as a rescue therapy for incomplete cerebral aneurysm occlusion after flow diversion: A case report

Background: Excellent treatment outcomes using a pipeline embolization device (PED) have been reported. However, several limitations exist. For example, patients must receive antiplatelet therapy for at least several months, and few alternative treatments exist except for inserting additional flow diverter stents in cases where aneurysm obliteration is not obtained.
